My suggestion is that now that Windy Hills Club have a 'home terrain' it is time they ran a few tournaments so that some of the clubs that have provided them with tournaments with all the accompanying benefits in terms of facilities and the like, that they have enjoyed for a substantial length of time now without making any contribution of their own, could enjoy some of those same things. Come on guys, cough up and provide something in return, it's about time. No Name.The views expressed in the "Suggestion" I have heard before. This is the first time I have seen these views in print. If we as Petanque players and officials remain on the sideline in the face of such an unfounded and callous attack, these views will fester on, and this would indeed be damaging. I therefore urge people to make a comment to this posting in support of Windy Hills. Please remember that a positive and measured tone has more impact. Blog editor, Tom van Bodegraven.

I must say I am really disappointed with this "suggestion" by No Name. First and foremost we must be grateful for tournament participants. It is is the players who pay their entry fees for Petanque tournaments who make it possible to have tournaments in the first place. We should commend the Windy Hills club for their great efforts in promoting our game by playing at the small public Waitangi Park terrain (3 pistes) (It is a completely absurd suggestion that they should run tournaments on three piste. I would like to quote here from their Wiki page: "Now that the new Waitangi Park public pistes have been completed, we will be using them as our "home" piste. We will be liaising with the Council to have a notice board put up (hopefully on the cafe wall) with generic information about petanque and details of clubs in the Wellington region". Thanks Windy Hills for promoting our game!.

Who gave you the right to determine how clubs run their affairs? Windy Hills have paid their WPA and PNZ affiliation fees and that's all you should be concerned with.
Windy Hills players have supported events around the region - from Horowhenua through to Masterton. They have paid their entry fees and supported events. Whether or not they decide to run an event should be of no concern to you or anyone else who thinks like you.
The WPA should be grateful that a club has taken an initiative to make sure that a public piste, in a very high profile area was established. Instead of knocking Windy Hills - try supporting them. The Waitangi Park piste may be one of the few opportunities available to get new players - which many of the Wellington clubs sorely need.
Oh - and if you are worried about them being "parasites" on the other clubs - parasites don't kill their hosts, as they need them to survive. Maybe you should think about that before making further comments of this nature.
And - try signing your name next time. Having the balls to support your convinctions, does give someone a degree of respect - even if their comments are divisive and poorly thought out.

maybe no name should have the guts to come out from behind your mum's skirt and add your name to the comment. you can see why petanque is dying in wgtn with attitudes like no names crap. windy hills members, like all other clubs members pay to play and support other events, but hey if you don't want to get players to support all events in wgtn then thats ok too. take a hike no name we don't need your attitude go and play with yourself!!!! RIP petanque wgtn.
Congratulations Windy Hills on now having an "official" home base. I hope you get as much pleasure from your piste as we do in Masterton. I too, am disappointed that someone would not have the courage to put their name at the end of an article but that is their democratic choice I suppose. Anonymous articles tend to lose their impact I feel.
Members of the Windy Hills club have been very supportive of the regional activities ever since their club was formed and it is up to us as established clubs, to encourage and support them as they find their feet with their new piste and new responsibilities.

The next time I'm in Wellington I cant wait to get to Waitangi park for a casual game, but with only 3 piste's, can't say as I'd be to keen on a tourney! At least a "bye" shouldn't be an issue though - boom boom!

Despite the fact we have had record numbers of visitors to our blog as a direct result of the above suggestion, ten days later only a hand full have expressed their abhorrence. Is this because people agree with the original suggestion, are not concerned (I am alright Jack), lack moral fibre, or simple feel they will lose Petanque privileges if they speak out in public. I do not want to preach to other people how they should deal with “wrongs”, but I am just so happy I have throughout my life stood up and spoken out against things and events I believed to be wrong or unjust. What kind of world do we create if we don’t speak out against an uttering (above suggestion) that is so clearly despicable?
From time to time we hear people talk about stepping back and not getting involved and then enjoying the game again. All I want to say to that is that you can enjoy our game of Petanque and still speak out against what you believe to be wrong and unjust. As a matter of fact, making positive and helpful contributions is a sure way of making our game more enjoyable for all of us.
