"JUST as the dust is settling on his career in one code, Ron Sandilands is proving he’s an unstoppable force.
After more than 60 years of sport, he’s retiring from petanque, the sixth sport he’s excelled at having represented New Zealand in open competition for the past six years.
The insatiable 76-year-old has previously played to national championship level in tennis, squash, badminton and table tennis, and reached a five handicap in golf. “I have decided to call it quits,” says Mr Sandilands, who has lived in East Auckland with wife Judi for 24 years...."

Yes, I agree with Georgio; great article. I have had the pleasure of seeing Ron in action many times. He is a man totally focused on his sport and an inspiration to young and old. Go well Ron!

We were surprised to learn of your retirement from Petanque,but typical of you, you went without fuss and fanfare.
You will be greatly missed around the Pistes,not only for your skill but also your knowlege and advice given freely.

Thanks Ron. during the ten years that i played petanque you always had a encouraging word. you are and will always be some one to admire. Your tanacity and ditermanation in all sports that you played is a good example to anyone wanting to reach the top. I enjoyed playing with you and against you on many occasions.

Sad news, Ron recently passed away peacefully at his home in Palmerston North.
Ron was a respected member of the Manawatu bowls community playing at Terrace End and Palmerston North clubs and representing the Manawatu junior team.
