Cockle Bay embarks on direct action against PNZ

During their AGM last Sunday the members of the Cockle Bay petanque club have decided to withhold all payments to PNZ until PNZ comes around and answers some of their questions. This is as far as I know the first case in New Zealand of direct action against PNZ by an affiliated petanque club. Will we see a domino effect? It remains to be seen if this will change the way PNZ communicates with its members.

On a more positive note, the Cockle Bay Petanque Club has also voted to donate $500.00 to the Christchurch quake fund. Fantastic!!

When clubs write to PNZ and months later have not even received an acknowledgment, they feel so frustrated that the only option is to force the issue. By simply withholding fees and payments to PNZ, clubs can get almost instant results. It should also impress upon PNZ that they need to behave in a much more responsible manner. In my mind there is just no excuse for totally ignoring members and clubs when they write in order to seek clarification from PNZ on whatever it may be. This has nothing to do with "all being volunteers" - this is to do with basic human courtesy.

Do we know what questions the club wants PNZ to answer.

We must be careful we do not get sidetracked over the type of question. It's the principles that are at stake here.

"....A second motion: That the Cockle Bay Petanque Club members consider whether we as a club remain affiliated to the PNZ Inc.
As this was a motion proposed at the previous AGM (2010), the meeting is awaiting from PNZ’s AGM (Rotorua March 2010) an answer to some of our questions re: reason for increase of affiliation fees and what advantage has a 60+ player to be affiliated to the PNZ. We are still waiting an answer...."

I understand Tom. I am just curious because my club is also awaiting answers.

I understand that the Cockle Bay club was voting on whether to remain affiliated to PNZ or not.

They have decided on a compromise of withholding payments, and if PNZ continues with stonewalling the club, Cockle Bay will call a special meeting.

There is a good possibility that the PNZ board has a real will and desire to communicate with clubs, but that there is some other influential person within PNZ who is not cooperating with the process. If this is the case, this person should be named. The PNZ Board needs to become proactive and take some decisive steps to prevent a possible implosion of our great game in New Zealand. We desperately need to see some real leadership and direction from PNZ.
